For Parents

What is Kerpoof?

As a parent you should know that Kerpoof is a website where your children can engage in creative play, interact with their friends in a safe environment and have fun.

Kerpoof currently has five dynamic activities where children of all ages can express themselves to:

  • Make a Picture
  • Make a Movie
  • Make a Drawing
  • Make a Card
  • Make a Story

We add new activities to Kerpoof almost every month. Wait until you see what's coming next!

All of the activities on Kerpoof are both fun and enriching. When children create things on Kerpoof, they earn virtual "koins" that they can save and use to "buy" characters, objects and effects that they can use in new stories or movies they create.

Subscribers to our paid, premium services get access to more content and features, and as a subscriber you will get access to Kerpoof's Parental Tools that will allow you to understand and control how these features are being used. Kerpoof provides extensive controls and security and monitoring mechanisms to protect the privacy and safety of our visitors.

Kerpoof subscribers can chat with their friends on Kerpoof (Find out about our safe chat system), play in the same scene with a friend and share their work with their friends. Kerpoof does not create a social network where children can meet strangers. Communication on Kerpoof is limited to groups of people who know each other from the real world. (Find out about our safe group system.)

While Kerpoof allows anyone to submit their artwork for publication on our site, all of these submissions are carefully and individually reviewed by our trained staff of monitors. If a submission contains any personal information at all, it will not be published. Please be assured that your child will not be able to publicly reveal any personal or private information about themselves to strangers by using Kerpoof. We know that this is a serious concern and we treat it very, very seriously. Our monitors also make sure that no inappropriate or adult content is ever published on Kerpoof.

Who is Kerpoof for?

The youngest regular user of Kerpoof that we know about is 2 and the oldest is 90. Since you are presumably a parent reading this page, you should know that Kerpoof can provide different things for your children at different ages. Here's a few ideas of ways that Kerpoof can enrich the lives of children by age groups

Ages 3-5

At this age, Kerpoof is typically visited with an adult or older sibling and with their help, can usually navigate most of Kerpoof's activities. Kerpoof is a great way to build motor (and mouse) skills and to foster creative thinking. You can also turn any picture you make on Kerpoof into a coloring page for off-line coloring. More than 400 pre-made Kerpoof coloring pages can be found at www.coloring.bz.

Ages 6-8

With a few reading skills under their belts, children can start to take full advantage of the Kerpoof creativity suite on their own. These kids will appreciate the ease with which they can make all sorts of fun creations on Kerpoof

Ages 9-13

As kids develop more analytical reasoning skills and social interests during these years, several of Kerpoof's activities will become richer experiences for them. The Make a Movie activity has been designed to teach some of the basic ideas behind computer programming and is a great way for kids to learn what a powerful tool a computer can be.

Older Kids and Adults

Everyone likes to be creative, and a lot of adults enjoy using Kerpoof. We simply ask that any shared materials be appropriate for children of all ages. We review every shared scene and will not post scenes with inappropriate material to our Shared Scenes Gallery (and may take other actions as appropriate - see our Terms and Conditions).

What makes Kerpoof different from other sites?

While there are many quality Internet destinations that are appropriate for kids, none inspire as much creative fun as Kerpoof does.

In addition, Kerpoof has created communication tools that are entirely appropriate for the web's youngest users because they are not meeting strangers. Kerpoof's safe chat system only allows users to interact with kids they already know, and is available only to subscribers - whose parent's identities are verified through credit card transactions. Kerpoof's Parental Tools give you full control over how Kerpoof's communication features are used by your children. You can be confident that your children are safe when they play on Kerpoof.

What does it cost to use Kerpoof?

Kerpoof's main activities are entirely free for anyone to use. Subscribers to our paid, premium services get access to additional content and some additional services, such as our communication features. We will continue to add new activities and functionality to both the free and member areas of Kerpoof to ensure that everyone can have access to quality fun and creativity. Our paid membership services allow us to continue to offer Kerpoof as a 100% advertising-free website.

Privacy and Other Protections

Kerpoof does not collect any personal information from non-subscribing users. Login procedures ask for users to create a username and password (prompting users NOT to use their full name or e-mail address). We also ask users to choose two secret questions so that they can reset a lost passwords without using any identifying information, like an email address.

Our subscription services do (of course!) collect enough personal information about adults to be able to bill a credit card, but we do not use this information for any other purpose.

We promise to never sell any of the limited personal information we gather from the visitors to our site. We have a strict Privacy Policy, and we voluntarily conform to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Safe Harbor Principles for the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA).

Kerpoof's Safe Chat

Kerpoof is committed to providing a safe environment for children and their families to interact. One way that we ensure safety is through our chat program. There is no fail-safe way to ensure that our users are who they say they are. Therefore, we decided that we would create a chat environment where users are interacting only with people they know in "the real world." To use this system, a credit card transaction is required, which verifies the identity of a parent of the user. The users can then create group names and passwords that they only share will people they know from "the real world." This then allows them to chat, leave messages, and share artwork with family or friends from school, without worrying about any communications going to inappropriate strangers.

In addition, Kerpoof's chat and group message board features are automatically filtered for inappropriate language. If profanity or other inappropriate language is entered, it is rendered as unrecognizable symbols like a cartoon book. If you notice that someone in your child's group is using bullying language or inappropriate topics you can contact that child's parent because they are someone your child knows from real life.

Safe sharing

Kerpoof users can choose to share their work with all Kerpoof users in the Shared Scenes Gallery. Each scene is carefully reviewed before it is accepted and appears in the Shared Scenes Gallery. We do not approve any scenes that include inappropriate topics, profanity, excessive violence, references to other Web sites, or any information that could be used to identify or contact the authors. Members of chat groups are also able to share their work with their group members. Those scenes are not monitored by us.
